| By pinoyfarmer | March 9, 2008 |

What is Kabir Chicken?
Kabir Chicken originated in the Middle East, where it is desired due to its very large size. Kabir means “large” in Arabic. Kabir chicken has been distributed throughout the world, gaining popularity because of its exceptional characteristics. Since its introduction into the Philippines, Kabir has become known as the chicken most-in-demand for backyard and small enterprise flocks.
What are the advantages of raising Kabir Chicken?
1. It is superior for meat conversion because of its rapid growth, good body conformation and efficient feed conversion.
2. The chicken is resistant to disease and heat stress.
3. It is large in size and has a “native” taste and texture.
4. When cross-breed with native chickens, the Kabir qualities are retained in the new breed.
5. Feeding cost is low since Kabir chicken can also survive by themselves. They can be raised in the same manner as “native chickens ” (pagala-gala).
6. Kabir eggs are low in choresterol.

What is the socio-economic impact of Kabir chicken raising?
Kabir chicken raising is a very good livelihood opportunity to families that desire to have an additional income, and a source of “native style”meat and exceptionally nutritious and low cholesterol table eggs. Also, Kabir chickens’ large size and handsome appearance make them a source of pride, especially among the rural folks.
Kabir chicken production can contribute to the economic and social development of the barangay, in particular, and the whole municipality/city, in general. In some provinces and municipalities in the country, Kabir chicken raising is being implemented as an alternative livelihood development project aimed to benefit needy families and constituents (Elmer Esplana).

Hi, I started my own small flock of Kabir chickens last year and got the chicks at Pacifica Agrivet here in Cebu City at around P34-36 per head and bought 25 chicks. You may also try to inquire at other agrivet stores for price comparison.
Pacifica branches nearest you can be found at:

Hope that helps.

how many times a day should kabir chicken can be feed?
April 18th, 2008 at 1:11 am
@rogelio loria jr: the nearest pacifica agrivet from your place is:
PASI-GUIMBA-POBLACION
Poblacion, Guimba, Nueva Ecija
Tel. No. (044) 943-0550
The number of times Kabir is fed is by preference. Some people feed twice a day, some 3x a day. It would also depend on the purpose of your Kabir whether they would be free-range or confined.
@ken james tacandong: I think female Kabir can be bred around 7-9 months from hatch. You may ask your chick supplier to be certain. My Kabir laid its first batch of eggs at around 8 months old and sat on the eggs until they hatched.

Hi, I just started raising sasso chickens and I am looking for other kinds of chicken that could be raised here in our place (La Trinidad, Benguet). I will be starting my own chicken farm and I found this web site. I would like to try to raise Kabir Chickens here so if you can provide me with the details of how to order them. If you have a branch somewhere near baguio city that will be better. Do you supply 21 days old chicks? The reason why I would like to get the 21 days old is that our place is cold and brooding is hard. I was successful in brooding 1 day olds but I would rather get the 21 days so I can have more production as I am eyeing mass production for my customers on a lesser time…
Please let me know, I am very much interested in raising chickens… I am looking for chickens that are very much adaptable here in our place.

She’s 5 months old pa pero nagmamate na. My friends told me that kabir chickens will brood late. Sa first two batch (eggs)ayaw pa daw lumimlim pero sa third okay na.

Hello, I’m planning to enter into native chicken business, can I have some info where I can attend seminars given by the Department of Agriculture or some government agencies. What type of native chicken is best? And also if anybody here can tell me if a 300 square meter area is good for raising native chicken and if so how many chickens would that accommodate? Thanks.
